SAFETY - our HACCP APPROACH

« The evolution and French or European regulatory bills takes into account some unexpected events that must be kept under control : mad cow, bird flu …a happy medium must be found between regulations and their on-the-field implementation in a pragmatic way. We leave it to our « common sense » to guide us while respecting the regulatory authority recommendations ( DRIRE, Veterinary Services). We have integrated an HACCP approach ( Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point ) applied to composting for a few months with a composting agreement request which is to be approved by the Veterinary Services Management in 2009. Controlling the impact of our activity and products on the environment is part of our major concerns, we are thoroughly seeing to it. Pierre Bastide d’Izard, Projects-Quality Manager.

Health Safety : our HACCP approach

Our company has been approved under the EU 1774/2002 regulation dated October 3rd 2002 establishing sanitary rules applicable to animal sub-products unsuitable for human consumption. Our composting methods comply with an HACCP plan aiming at guaranteeing the reduction of biological hazards.

A critical point is a stage of the composting procedure during which any parameter identified as hazardous to sanitary safety can be measured in real time and for which corrective action can be taken if the critical value defined for this parameter is likely to be overtaken. Among the critical points identified on the Groupe-Frayssinet site, let’s mention, among others, the mixing of raw matters where the analyses of the incoming raw matters allow to control their provision in carbon dioxide and nitrogen, or the active phase of open-air composting when the time-temperature couple are monitored or again the maturation phase for which our minimum maturation delay is two months time. The European and all the more so, the French regulations have established the HACCP preventive approach as a reference method to control food safety.

Provisional Composting Approval N°FR 81 231 001 ( this will benefit from tacit renewal until final approval).
